This sculpture is an outcome of my latest project- Mutualism

The aim of this Arts Council of Wales funded project, was to be able to create more intricate and ambitious works based on the plant forms I love combining them with marine animal features.

This sculpture was initially conceived whilst I was on residency in 2023 at the world renowned Pilchuck Glass School in the US. I experimented with making sculptures first in clay and then through a negative/positive process using the lost wax process cast this shape- a bringing together of land and sea forms- seedpods and starfish.

Using beautiful blue glass and layered colours reminiscent of sea waves, this piece was made back in my home studio this year. The ‘fins’ are made to be thinner towards the outer edges, allowing the variations of blue glass to show beautifully.
